Get Ready!

This is the main entrance to the Minnesota State Fair which, according to my DH (dear husband) who grew up in St. Paul, is one of the largest in the nation. Since I haven't researched that bit of local lore, I don't know if it's true. Minnesotans love their fairs--last year the attendance was 1,632,876 people. Yesterday I drove around the huge area, watching the workers spruce up the grounds. It was strange being there without the crowds and lots of tempting food--cholesterol heaven. During the next few days, I'll post pictures of some of the buildings and booths I saw, and then PERHAPS I'll photograph them later during the fair if I'm not jostled too much by all the eager fair goers, and if I can stop eating long enough to take pictures. In the meantime, visit Kate-musings for more pictures. (I still don't know how to program the links--I've got pictures which I also took yesterday of some beautiful horses on that blog).

  3. I went to Hamline U, about a mile from the State Fair Grounds (assuming it's still at the same place) and I remember the campus certainly smelled differently during the State Fair. Summer School was certainly interesting then.

  6. As a frequent visitor to the Minnesota State Fair, it's an amazing site. Personally I believe those born in the state of Minnesota are required to attend the fair due to a state regulation law that was passed in 1953, maybe it was 1954. The year is not important, what's important is I'm kidding about it being a state law.

    You see, I think the reason the state fair is so popular is because as a child, you attend the fair with your parents, they bring you to every boring place the fair could possibly have for a child. It was mind numbing as a child some of the places I had to go to year after year after year with mom and dad. Now that I've grown and I have my old children, I'm going to punish them as a way of getting back at my parents.

    I can't wait for this years fair to take some photos of and share on my photo blog. There are three people who photo graph in the St Paul area and I'm sure each one of us will have a MN State Fair photo during the same two week period.

  7. Hey Matt, Tanty, and anyone else, Come to town, visit the Fair, and I'll show you a good time! Open House.

    Kala, Yes, the Mall of America is about 10 min from my house in Bloomington, MN. You may not believe this 'cuz no-one has does, but DH and I decided NEVER to go there. It represents everything we don't like about our culture (and sometimes ourselves)--gross materialism. We have a wonderful neighborhood shopping area, called Grand Avenue which has all that we need and then some. It's very cool with lots of charm. Hey, you can visit that, too, when you arrive ;=}
